How to Install FTP Server<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Before discussing Installing FTP Server let’s have a look first at what a server is. A server<\/strong> is a centralized unit (PC\/ server machine)<\/strong> in a network system for providing and maintaining the internet service to the number of users attached to it. The server is the system act as a host that is responsible to provide the services to the clients and also take their command.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Internet Information Services or so-called IIS is an application we use to support web browsing activities. It supports the following protocols; FTP, FTPS, SMTP, NNTP, HTTP<\/strong>. Basically, the File Transfer Protocol (FTP)<\/strong> performs two major functions. By using FTP, one can get a better source for virus detection, access free software programs by downloading them from a remote point. Furthermore, it also helps to secure the data by uploading them to a remote place. File transferring protocol when installing in PC act as an FTP server<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Now let’s see how can we install FTP Server.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Procedure: Part I<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

  1. First, click the start<\/strong> button and go to the control panel.<\/li>
  2. Now select Add \/ Remove Windows components<\/strong>, you will see Windows Components Wizard.<\/li>
  3. In components not check rather clicks the Application Servers, Internet Information Services (IIS)<\/strong> and see the details<\/strong>.<\/li>
  4. By clicking the details you will see Common Files, File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service<\/strong>, and Internet Information Service (IIS) Manager. Check <\/strong>their boxes.<\/li>
  5. Next, you can check other programs related to the Internet service you need and then click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>
  6. After clicking OK, a prompt \u201cNext\u201d will come in front of you asking for the installation command.<\/li>
  7. Locate the file<\/strong> from the program or insert CD<\/strong>.<\/li>
  8. After the program is installed click Finish<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    After the installation of IIS is complete now configure the FTP service before you go for the application.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Procedure: Part II<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    1. Run Internet Information Service Manager<\/li>
    2. You will see server _ name<\/strong>, presently expand<\/strong> it.<\/li>
    3. FTP Sites are displayed, select default<\/strong> FTP Site<\/li>
    4. Open FTP\u2019S Site properties.<\/li>
    5. Go for the Security Accounts.<\/li>
    6. In the security account tab click<\/strong> the Allow Anonymous Connections<\/strong>.<\/li>
    7. Select<\/strong> Allow Only Anonymous Connections. At this point, you will configure only anonymous connections.<\/li>
    8. Open the Home Directory tab.<\/li>
    9. Look for the Read and Login checkboxes<\/strong> and mark<\/strong> them if not marked already<\/strong>.<\/li>
    10. Look for the Write check box and clear<\/strong> it if it is marked.<\/li>
    11. Now click OK<\/strong>. You have done the configuration.<\/li>
    12. Close all the open windows and quits IIS Manager.<\/li>
