Ping is a command-line utility, an internet program that is used to verify whether a particular IP address exists and can accept requests. It is a tool to test if a networked device is reachable across an IP network. Ping measures the time taken for sending the packets and record any losses all along the way. Besides, the tool works by sending ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) Echo Request to an interface on the network and receiving the reply. It will find and send out an echo request to the target system and the remote host will send back an echo reply.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

If we define ping as a verb, it is supposed to mean ‘getting the attention of’ and ‘checking the prsence of’ another party online. However, it also stands for the computer acronym (for Packet Internet or Inter-Network Groper). Furthermore, the author from ping utility said the program ‘ping’ was named after the sound of solar. In other words, ‘ping’ is an audible sound wave which is sent out to find an object in solar.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Before using applications or systems over the internet, one essential step that you need to do is check if the connection is working well. The ping commands can help you to determine what kind of problems you are facing. If the ping by IP address is successful, but the response times are too long, it may be caused by routing, congestion, or network speed issue. If the ping by name fails, then it means you are having a name resolution issue. Sometimes the subnet of a remote system can be successfully pinged, but not the target system itself. In this case, it means that the network connectivity of that remote host is in doubt.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
